Another Visitor and a Nasty Stomach Bug!

It seems hard to believe that we have only been here about five months, but we have already had five separate occasions where people have come to visit. Just after Jessi and Jack left last Wednesday morning, we welcomed one of Cole's cousins, MeiMei. MeiMei is a sophomore in college and was in Avignon, France for several weeks attending a theater festival. Because she was relatively close to Gent, she decided to stop here to visit between the end of that festival and the beginning of another theater festival in Edinburgh, Scotland. The last time we saw her was at our wedding, 8 years ago, so it was nice to catch up with her and learn about what she's been up to recently. She's a very smart, independent young women and did a lot of exploring on her own.

Unfortunately, I caught the stomach bug that I talked about in my last couples posts and was throwing up and in bed for about 48 hours. It was a gift from God to have MeiMei here because I could not have watched the boys if I wanted to and Cole had to work...at least a little. So she helped Cole out tremendously and watched the boys while he had to work and even helped with them once he was home. She was able to do a little exploring in between helping out, but she was wonderful.  Unfortunately, MeiMei also ended up getting the stomach bug and lost a full day of exploring while she rested in bed. We felt terrible that she caught such a nasty bug from being here, but we were thankful that she was here with family and that we (aka Cole) could make sure she had what she needed/wanted and help her if she needed anything.

We're pretty sure that she was generally able to enjoy her visit despite being sick and having to give up some of her exploration time to help with the boys. We took MeiMei to the train station Sunday to continue her journey and we wished her well.

Even though we enjoy having people come to visit, it is very nice to get back to normal. It's easier for the boys because they can rest at normal times and sleep in their own beds. And it's nice for Cole and I to have time for each other after the boys go to bed. Our lives can just get back into a bit of a routine. So we will enjoy our down time while we can, and wait for our next visitors to arrive in a few weeks!

As a side note, it is not fun being away from friends and family when you are sick! Like I said before, MeiMei was a gift from God, but if she wouldn't have been here, I'm not exactly sure what we would have done while I was so sick! Once again God provided for our every need and we are extremely grateful for that!
